Central North Island

Clover Downs Estate is a great home base for exploring New Zealand’s central North Island area.

From Rotorua it is an easy day trip to explore some New Zealand’s most impressive natural features. Lake Taupo is a one hour drive away. New Zealand’s largest lake, Taupo is picturesque and a great place for fishing for rainbow and brown trout.

Waitomo is another famous New Zealand landmark. Here you can safely explore large caves and see magical glowworms. To see Kiwis and other native birds up close visit the Kiwi House in Otorohanga.

Further south, explore the Central Plateau and the Desert Road with its high tundra desert landscape and impressive mountains including Mount Ruapehu. Great for skiing in the winter months.
